What do you think of when you're hungry? Do you think of the cookies your grandma made when you were little? Do you think of eating out or that you just don't want to cook tonight? Do thoughts of a favorite recipe come to mind? How about the ice cream you bought last week? Or are you drooling now that you are thinking about the meal you have waiting at home?
Often times, when we think of food, we think about what we like, what is convenient, or what we need to pick up at the store. We think of food in terms of cost, or preparation, and taste.
Have you ever thought of where the lettuce came from? What process did they use to preserve the meat, or make the milk last so long? No? Don't be surprised if you haven't. With the hectic
lives we live, many think in terms of "can we afford it?" and "will it save me time?". What many don't think of is..........
.................it really does matter what you eat.

Think of the increase cases of Adult ADHD. Do you know that studies show that removing red dyes and preservatives' from their diet reduces their symptoms by 50%. How about the rise in autism? There is now 1 child in 88 that has autism. They have linked dyes and preservatives' to autism as well. How about
the dramatic rise in dementia? Dementia has been linked to the insulin levels caused by eating junk food! What about the controversy of GMO foods and seeds?
So, in a world of convenience foods, preservatives', additives, and
chemicals, how do you protect yourself and your family? Simply.......eating simply. Start by reading labels. Let's take a look at just one ingredient label:
Sounds yummy doesn't it?
What you are eating? Do you even want to know?
Care for another Ritz cracker?
We could cover what different ingredients' mean, the worries of genetically modified food and seeds, enough to fill a library, but that isn't what you want......what most want is to learn how to eat healthy, how to eat safe, and how to protect our families. Remember what I said before? Simply....... eating simply.
Start by buying food that isn't processed. Shop at your local Farmer's Market, better yet, grow your own! Use heirloom seeds, not hybrid seeds. You don't have a garden spot? Start your own community garden, offer to help someone weed their garden for fresh, wonderful, safe foods. Learn to process your own food, if you don't want to can, learn to dehydrate! No room for goats,
try raising rabbits. Some urban area's allow for raising certain livestock, find out what is allowed in your area. And most of all, start reading the ingredient labels. If you need a dictionary to pronounce the name or need to research on the internet what something is, then it isn't something you want to feed your
family.
It isn't as impossible as you think. Eating real food is far more important than the nutritional fact's 'eating healthy'. Learn about your food, take one step at a time if you need too - but take that step!
The old saying that 'you are what you eat' is far more important than you think.
Peace be with you, always.
